2.5 INITIAL VIEWS ON THE CURRENT MAINTENANCE OF RAILWAYS
Abstract
Railway maintenance is a critical aspect of ensuring the safety, reliability, and efficiency of railway infrastructure. The topic of initial ideas about current maintenance of railways involves exploring innovative approaches and strategies to enhance the maintenance practices within the railway industry. It may include discussions on leveraging technology such as predictive maintenance systems, condition monitoring sensors, and data analytics to detect and address maintenance issues proactively. Additionally, the abstract may highlight the importance of comprehensive inspection routines, timely repairs, and effective asset management techniques to optimize the performance and longevity of railway tracks, bridges, signals, and other critical components. By focusing on continuous improvement and adopting best practices in maintenance, railway operators can minimize downtime, reduce costs, and ultimately enhance the overall operational effectiveness of railway networks.

The maintenance of railways is a crucial aspect of ensuring their safe and efficient operation. Railway maintenance encompasses various activities such as track inspection, repairs, signaling system checks, and overall infrastructure upkeep. Effective maintenance practices are essential to prevent accidents, ensure passenger safety, and minimize service disruptions.
Initial ideas about the current maintenance of railways may include exploring advanced technologies like predictive maintenance using sensors and data analytics to identify potential issues before they cause major problems. Additionally, implementing regular inspections, routine maintenance schedules, and investing in training for maintenance
What kind of work does the current path content include? On the basis of the concluded contract, our specialists will perform the entire range of urgent and preventive work, which involves the current maintenance of the track: from inspection and diagnosis of the railway track, followed by the preparation of a defective statement to the maintenance of the object during commission inspections by representatives of regulatory authorities.
The list of tasks for the current content of the path includes:
ensuring control over the condition of railway tracks and structures by a road foreman with the participation of a track crew, prevention and elimination of identified malfunctions;
increasing the inter-repair time of all elements of the railway track and reducing the cost of repairs;
carrying out inspections, track measurements and switches with the inclusion of the results in the record book and the defective statement;
elimination of drawdowns and track distortions affecting the smooth running of the rolling stock, using electric tampers and adjustment cards;
straightening and elimination of the number of angles in the plan, which cause poor fastening of the railway branch and lead to the ejection of the path;
laying of cards, geotextiles and cutting of ballast in the elimination of the consequences of soil heaving in the form of lifting the rail track;
acceleration and adjustment of butt gaps with and without rupture of the rail track to prevent bends and cuts;
elimination of deviations in the width of the rail track by re-stitching the track (for wooden sleepers) or replacing the rubber and insulating corner (for reinforced concrete sleepers);
cleaning of rails and fasteners by 3rd-class fitters or track crawlers in areas with a high content of dirt and fuel oil to avoid slipping;
broaching and lubrication of bolts (butt, terminal, embedded) to prevent track theft and increase butt gaps, eliminate places with loose fasteners;
elimination of path splashes and cutting of ballast to prevent the formation of depths in winter, subsidence and misalignment of the path;
repair and replacement of rails and switches caused by the presence of serious defects and the inability to operate them;
replacement of track elements such as sleepers and transfer bars, the service life of which has ended due to rotting processes and work performed by heavy-duty machines;
installation, repair and maintenance of track and signal signs necessary for the full operation of all railway transport services and marking of railway borders;
replacement of butt fasteners and linings – the most vulnerable places of the railway track, the wear of which is caused by the creation of thermal stresses by the wheel pairs of the train;
treatment of sections of the track, the interway and the right-of-way with herbicides to remove unnecessary vegetation;
repair and maintenance of wooden and rail dead-end stops, including painting-installation of signs, elimination of structural defects, measurement of the dimensions of buildings, regular inspection..
